Jeju beaches pass environmental screenings
Researchers test water and sand at 14 local beaches

The Jeju Research Institute for Public Health and Environment has given local beaches a clean bill of health.

Researchers recently tested the water at 14 beaches across the island. All samples met environmental standards.

Researchers also examined beach sand for five heavy metals, such as cadmium. All samples were deemed safe and in compliance with Environmental Safety Management Standards.

The institute says it will conduct water quality evaluations every two weeks once the beaches officially open for the summer.

제주도내 해수욕장의 수질과 백사장 모래가 모두 환경기준에 적합한 것으로 조사됐습니다.

제주도 보건환경연구원이 최근 14개 해수욕장에 대한 수질검사결과
모두 기준에 적합한 것으로 나타났습니다.

또 백사장 모래의 경우 카드뮴 등 5가지의 중금속을 조사한 결과
환경안전관리기준에 적합한 것으로 분석됐습니다.

보건환경연구원은 앞으로 해수욕장 개장 기간 중 2주마다 한차례씩 수질조사를 실시할 예정입니다.
