Slaughterhouse closed due to swine flu outbreak
Pork production halted in Jeju

The first outbreak in 18 years of swine flu in Jeju has forced local authorities to halt the production and distribution of local pork.

Authorities have also culled three thousand pigs and destroyed pork from the farm where the disease was discovered.

The slaughterhouse in Jeju has temporarily been closed and some 900 pigs that were to be slaughtered there will be culled.

Despite the halt in the distribution of local pork, experts say the situation will not affect Jeju’s overall pork industry as there are currently ample stocks of the meat for consumers.

돼지열병 발생으로 도축장 폐지…유통 중단

제주에 돼지열병이 발생하면서
돼지고기 도축과 유통도 중단되고 있습니다.

제주도는 돼지열병이 발생한 농가가 출하한 돼지와
함께 보관됐던 돼지 3천여 마리를 분쇄처리했다고 밝혔습니다.

이와함께 도내 도축장을 전면 폐쇄하고
도축할 예정이던 돼지 900여 마리도 살처분할 계획입니다.

도축장이 폐쇄되면서 돼지고기 유통과 공급도 중단되고 있지만
제주도는 비축해 놓은 물량이 충분한 만큼,
이로 인한 영향은 크지 않을 것으로 보고 있습니다.
