Construction restricted around western oreum
New provincial regulations to preserve island’s landscape

The provincial government has implemented new regulations to manage the island’s landscape... restricting construction around Hallasan Mountain and its parasitic volcanoes, which are known locally as oreum.

The new rules came into force this month and apply to western oreum regions. Housing complexes with over 30 units cannot exceed eight meters in height, and a coastline protection zone has been designated that extends 50 meters inland from the shoreline.

Also, all wind farms, onshore and offshore, will have to go through screening as part of the new measures.

제주특별자치도가 이달부터 한라산과 오름 해안 등 중점경관지역에 대한 새로운 경관관리계획을 시행합니다.

주요내용으로는 서부지역 오름 군락 일대에 건설되는 30세대 이상 공동주택의 높이는 최고 8미터로 제한했고 해안변은 해안선에서 50미터 이내 지역은 해안선 보호구역으로 집중 관리됩니다.

또 풍력발전탑 경관 관리를 위해 육상 뿐 아니라 해상 풍력 시설도 경관 심의를 의무화 했습니다.
