One-way roads and tram service
Province looking into new ways of easing traffic congestion

Several of Jeju City’s main arteries will become one-way roads and authorities are also considering adding a new form of transportation to and from the airport to ease traffic in that area.

The provincial government says it plans to convert the six-lane (연삼로) Yeonsam-ro and (동서광로) Dongseogwang-ro in Jeju City as well as (중앙로) Joongang-ro in Seogwipo into one-way roads in a bid to reduce traffic.

Also, new diagonal pedestrian crossings will be drawn in very busy areas, like Nohyeong Intersection, the intersection in front of Halla Hospital, and (광양사거리) Gwangyang Intersection.

The province is also reviewing a previous proposal to launch tram service to and from the airport. That plan fell through four years ago.

These are some of the 19 revisions to Jeju’s transportation innovation plans that will likely be implemented, beginning as early as August 2017.

주요 도로 일방통행…신교통수단 검토

제주시 연삼로 등 주요 도로가 일방통행로로 전환되고 공항을 오가는 신교통수단도 도입됩니다.

제주특별자치도는 교통량이 많은 제주시내 왕복 6차선 도로인 연삼로와 동서광로, 그리고 서귀포 중앙로 일대를 일방통행로로
전환할 계획입니다.

아울러 보행자가 많이 다니는 노형 오거리와 한라병원 사거리, 광양사거리 등에는
대각선 횡단보도가 설치됩니다.

제주도는 4년 전 타당성이 없다며 무산된 트램 등 신교통수단도 공항을 중심으로 재도입하는 방안을 검토중이라고 밝혔습니다.

제주도는 대중교통체제 개편안을 포함한 교통혁신과제 19개 과제를 내년 8월부터 단계적으로 시행할 계획입니다.
