Alert issued for venomous jellyfish
If stung, immediately seek first aid treatment

Officials have issued a safety alert after numerous sightings of venomous jellyfish in local waters.

The National Institute of Fisheries Science says that on July 6th, a number of Nomura's jellyfish were spotted in the waters off Shinchang-ri in Hangyeong-myeon. Other sightings of venomous species have been reported elsewhere.

Such sightings are not uncommon, as Jeju is situated along a jellyfish migration route.

Experts are asking people to take caution when at the beach. Should you find a jellyfish, they say you must not come in contact with it. If stung, you must immediately leave the water and seek first aid treatment.

제주연안 '독성 해파리' 출현 주의보

본격적인 여름 휴가철로 접어든 가운데 제주 연안에서 독성 해파리가 잇따라 발견되면서 피서객 안전에 주의가 요구됩니다.

국립수산과학원은 지난 6일 한경면 신창리 인근 해역에서
노무라입깃해파리가 밀집해 출현한 것으로 보고되는 등
제주를 비롯한 전국 연안에서 독성 해파리 출현이 잦아지고 있다며 주의를 당부했습니다.

특히 제주는 먼바다에서 유입되는 독성 해파리들의 이동 경로여서
노무라입깃해파리나 작은부레관해파리가 자주 목격되고 있다고 덧붙였습니다.

국립수산과학원은 해수욕을 하다가 해파리를 발견하더라도
절대 만지지 말고 만약 해파리에 쏘였을 경우 즉시 물 밖으로 나와
응급처치를 해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
