Agricultural water supply system plan passes feasibility study

Authorities will soon begin building an integrated agricultural water supply system in Jeju.

The Ministry of Strategy and Finance approved the project following an on-site feasibility study.

That means the proposed water system will be mapped out starting next year. Construction is slated to be complete by 2024.

The project’s price tag? 144.7 billion won. The money will be spent on digging 58 agricultural tube wells, developing six freshwater springs, installing 58 large water tanks, and laying 503 kilometers of underwater piping.

Once complete, the integrated system is expected to provide 91 percent of the island’s agricultural water supply - enough to get local farmers through any droughts.

농업용수 광역사업이 본격 추진될 전망입니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 제주농업용수 광역화 사업이 최근 기획재정부 재정사업평가 자문위원회의
예비타당성 심사를 최종 통과했습니다.

이에 따라 내년 기본설계를 시작으로 오는 2024년까지 사업비 1천 447억원을 투자해 농업용관정개발 58곳과 용천수 개발 6개소, 대용량 저수조 58군데, 그리고 농업용수 이용을 위한 관로 503킬로미터를 연결하는 사업을 추진하게 됩니다.

제주도는 이번 사업을 통해 농업용수 급수율이 91%까지 오르게 된다며 가뭄걱정 없는 안정적인 영농활동을 기대하고 있습니다.
