Seogwipo population grows by 4,000 in H1
Projected to top 180,000 in February

The population in Seogwipo rose by over 4,000 in the first half of this year.

As of the end of June, the tally stood at just over 174,600.

That means the city gained an average of some 670 new residents each month between January and June. At the current rate, the population is projected to top 180,000 by February.

The biggest rise in population was in Daeryun-dong, where over 1,600 new residents registered this year. That was followed by Daejeong-eup with around 450.

On the other side of spectrum, the population fell by a total of about 500 in areas such as Songsan, Jeongbang and Joongang-dong.

서귀포 인구증가 지속, 상반기 4천명 늘어

서귀포시의 인구증가가 지속되며 올해 상반기에만 4천여 명이 늘어난 것으로 집계됐습니다.

서귀포시에 따르면, 6월말 기준 서귀포 인구는 17만 4천 600여 명으로 지난해말부터 6개월 동안에만 4천여 명이 늘었습니다.

한달 평균 670여 명이 증가한 것으로 이 같은 증가 추세가 지속될 경우 내년 2월이면 18만명을 넘을 것으로 예측하고 있습니다.

읍면동별로는 대륜동이 1천 600여 명으로 가장 많이 늘었고 대정읍이 450여 명으로 뒤를 이었습니다.

반면 구시가지권인 송산, 정방, 중앙동 등은 500여 명이 줄어 대조를 이뤘습니다.
