Japanese encephalitis vector spotted in Jeju
Mosquitoes found in Hangyeong-myeon

Following a nationwide Japanese encephalitis warning, health authorities say they have spotted here in Jeju the mosquito species known to carry the disease.

The Jeju Institute of Health and Environment says that on July 11th, six of the mosquitoes were caught at a livestock farm in Hangyeong-myeon and submitted to the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention for further examination. This particular species is considered to be a Japanese encephalitis vector.

Health authorities are warning residents to be extra careful when outdoors, as there are usually more mosquitoes after the rainy season.

전국에 일본 뇌염 경보가 내려진 가운데
제주에서도 뇌염 매개 모기인 작은빨간집모기가 발견됐습니다.

제주도 보건환경연구원은
어제(11일) 제주시 한경면 모 축사 주변에서
뇌염 바이러스를 옮기는 작은빨간집모기 6마리를 채집하고
질병관리본부에 검사를 의뢰했습니다.

보건환경연구원은
장마철 이후 모기 활동이 본격적으로 시작되는 만큼,
야외활동에 각별한 주의를 당부하고 있습니다.
