Ratio of patients doubled in matter of weeks

Health authorities are urging locals to be careful as an increasing number of people are being diagnosed with eye infections.

The provincial government says 27 of every thousand island residents had an infection in mid-June, but that that ratio more than doubled to 59.5 people out of a thousand by early July. Health experts say that is especially worrisome because it is more than four times higher than the 13.8 recorded in the same period a year ago.

Most patients are reportedly under 19 years of age. Health officials are advising everyone to take extra care to maintain a high level of hygiene.

최근 유행성 눈병 환자가 늘고 있어 예방에 각별한 주의가 필요합니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 인구 1천명당 유행성 눈병 환자 수는
지난 6월 중순 27명에서 7월 초 59.5 명으로 두 배 이상 증가했습니다.

특히 지난해 같은 기간 13.8명 보다 무려 네 배 이상 환자가 늘면서
유행성 눈병이 확산조짐을 보이고 있습니다.

제주도는 유행성 눈병은 19살 이하에서 많이 발생하고 있다며 철저한 위생관리를 당부하고 있습니다.
