‘THAAD deployment has had no effect on Jeju tourism’
JTO responds to worries mainland deployment could cut Chinese arrivals

Jeju’s tourism reportedly remains unaffected by Seoul’s recent decision to deploy a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense battery on the mainland.

Based on market research, the Jeju Tourism Organization found that as of yet no tour groups have cancelled reservations because of the missile defense system nor had there been any inquiries regarding THAAD.

Hotel reservation figures are similar to last year and there have not been any signs of a downturn in business.

The organization did add, however, that should the Chinese government decide to intervene on the THAAD issue, the number of Chinese arrivals could drop, which would be disastrous for the local tourism industry, as so many of Jeju’s visitors are from China.

사드 영향으로 취소된 단체는 없으며 사드관련 문의도 없는 것으로 파악됐다고 밝혔습니다.

호텔업계도 예약률이 지난해와 비슷하고 특이사항은 없는 것으로 조사됐습니다.

관광공사는 다만 사드문제가 계속 커져 중국정부가 제재를 취할 경우
1순위가 관광인 만큼 관광객 감소로 인한 업계의 피해가 불가피 할 것으로 내다봤습니다.
