Management normalized at Jeju International University
School embroiled in controversy since 2000

For the first time in three years, Jeju International University has a formal board of directors, which replaced the temporary management structure that had been in place since 2013.

The province says the school officially appointed six new directors to manage the university on Monday.

The move comes on the back of resolved disputes at the academic institution and procedures to merge some of the school’s faculty.

Jeju International University had been operated by an ad hoc committee due to the backlash caused by embezzlement charges against its operator, the Dongwon Educational Institute, in 2000 and the subsequent breakup of the school’s board.

제주국제대학교가 지난 2013년 이후 3년 만에 정이사 체제로 전환했습니다.

제주특별자치도는 어제(25일) 자로 제주국제대학교 정이사 8명 가운데 자진철회 의사를 밝힌 2명을 제외한 6명에 대한 취임을 승인했습니다.

이는 학교 통폐합을 위한 부지 매입 절차가 완료됐고 학내 갈등도 해소되면서 정이사 체제로 전환하는데 문제가 없다는
교육부 사학분쟁조정위원회 결정에 따른 것입니다.

제주국제대학교는 지난 2000년 학교법인 동원교육학원의
교비횡령 사건을 비롯해 이사회 파행 등으로 수년 동안 임시이사 체제로 운영돼 왔습니다.
