Seoul says Global Education City profits can be repatriated

The Jeju Provincial Office of Education has reiterated its opposition to Seoul’s advance notice to allow international schools in the Global Education City to send profits back to their home countries.

The education office says it officially registered its opposition to the legislative change made by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport on July 26th.

It explained that the repatriation of funds could lead to a loss in state funds. It added this would run counter to the GEC’s objectives and make the city a for-profit district. The education office is working with the provincial council to convince the National Assembly to withdraw the amendment.

과실송금 허용 입법예고…"도교육청 수용 불가"

제주영어교육도시 국제학교 과실송금 허용 문제를 놓고 제주도교육청이 수용 불가 입장을 재확인했습니다.

제주도교육청은 지난 26일 국토교통부가 입법 예고한 외국교육기관의 이익잉여금 배당 즉 과실송금 허용을 골자로 한 제주특별법 개정안에 대해 반대 의견을 제출했다고 밝혔습니다.

도교육청은 과실 송금 허용에 따른 국부 유출 방지라는 당초 제주영어교육도시 설립의 목적과 정면 배치되고 교육 현장이 돈벌이 수단으로 전락할 수 있다는 이유를 들었습니다.
