Officials extend hours, add more on-duty lifeguards
The number of visitors to Jeju City’s beaches last month marked a new landmark. Some 1.3 million people hit the beach ... in the shortest period of time on record.
Jeju City officials said that from July 1st to 29th, the number of beachgoers was up 79 percent compared to the same time last year.
The most visited beach was Iho… with four hundred forty six thousand (446,000) beachgoers. This was followed by Hyeopjae with a little over 300,000 visitors and Hamdeok with 272,000.
The city has announced it will extend official opening hours of the beaches by one hour. And to ensure everyone stays safe, lifeguards will work six days a week instead of the current five, according to city officials.
