Restroom that was scene of attempted rape to be renovated
Changes to include emergency buzzers, new entrance

Authorities say that, in the interests of public safety, they will renovate a public restroom near Jeju City Hall that was the scene of an attempted rape.

The single corridor that leads to the men’s and women’s restrooms will be split into two and clearly divided into male and female entrances.

Extra partitions will also be installed around the women’s entrance for more safety.

Finally, all stalls will be equipped with emergency buzzers that alert the police. The renovations are expected to be completed by the end of this month.

성폭행 미수 공중화장실 정비 공사

최근 성폭행 미수 사건이 발생했던 제주시청 공중화장실에 남녀 출입 통로가 구분되는 방향으로 개선 공사가 이뤄지고 있습니다.

이번 공사는 기존 남녀 출입 통로가 한 군데였던 공중화장실에
남자와 여자 출입 통로를 구분하는 것으로 기존 통로로는 남자 화장실만 출입할 수 있게 됩니다.

여성 화장실 출입 통로는 기존 통로의 왼쪽에 설치되며
범죄 예방과 안전성을 높이기 위해 내부에 별도 칸막이도 설치됩니다.

제주시는 이와함께 위급한 상황에서 벨을 누르면 경찰과 연결되는 안심벨도 변기마다 설치하고 이달 말쯤 화장실을 개방할 계획입니다.
