More passengers taking ferry between Jeju, Mokpo
Total up 39% over past few weeks

There’s been a noticeable spike this summer in the number of ferry passengers between Jeju and Mokpo.

61,000 people traveled the route over the 17 days beginning July 22nd. The Mokpo Regional Maritime Affairs & Fisheries Office says that’s 39 percent more than during the corresponding period last year.

The number of cars transported on the ferry service spiked 66 percent to around 16,600.

Experts attribute the rise to the growing number of people vacationing here coupled with an increase in ferry operations since last November.

제주-목포 항로 여객선 이용객 크게 늘어

올 여름 휴가철 제주와 목포를 오가는 여객선 이용객이 크게 늘었습니다.

목포지방해양수산청에 따르면 여름 휴가철인 지난달 22일부터 17일 동안 제주와 목포 항로 이용객은 6만1천여명으로 지난해 같은 기간에 비해 39%증가했습니다.

차량도 만6천600여 대로 66% 증가한 것으로 집계됐습니다.

이는 제주에 대한 관광수요가 꾸준히 증가하며
지난해 11월부터 여객선이 증편된데 따른 것으로 분석됩니다.
