Former hotel to be converted into cultural complex
Park Hotel opened in 1970 but closed about 10 years ago.

The former Park Hotel building near Seogwipo Port, which has stood vacant for over a decade, will be renovated and turned into a cultural complex.

The Paradise Culture Foundation, the owner of the former hotel, has decided to start remodeling this November. It plans to open the new complex by next June.

The Park Hotel opened in 1970, becoming Seogwipo’s first tourist class hotel. Poor business in the early 2000s forced the operator to shut it down, and the building has remained abandoned since then.
The Paradise Culture Foundation says it will maintain the basic structure of the building while renovating it into a site for art exhibitions, concerts, and other arts-related events and conventions.

서귀포 옛 파크호텔, 복합문화공간으로 재탄생

서귀포항 부근에서 10년 넘게 방치됐던 옛 파크호텔 건물이
복합문화공간으로 탈바꿈합니다.

서귀포시에 따르면, 옛 파크호텔 소유주인 파라다이스문화재단 측은
호텔 건물을 복합문화공간으로 리모델링하기로 하고
오는 11월 착공해 내년 6월 개방할 예정입니다.

옛 파크호텔은 1970년대 문을 연 서귀포의 제1호 관광호텔이었지만
2천년대 초반 영업 부진으로 폐업하면서
지금까지 흉물로 방치돼 왔습니다.

파라다이스문화재단은 건물 원형을 보전하고 재정비해
미술작가나 음악가 등 예술인들에게 창작공간으로,
주민과 관광객들에게는
문화 체험과 휴식 공간으로 제공한다는 구상입니다.
