New record in July tourist arrivals
Over 1.5m people visited the island last month

A spike in the number of international arrivals last month boosted the overall tourist tally in July to an all-time high.

The Jeju Tourism Association says over 1.5 million tourists visited Jeju in July. That’s 43.6 percent more than July 2015, when just over a million came.

While domestic arrivals were up 15 percent, international arrivals soared nearly four-fold compared to last year to nearly 405,000. Many tourists cancelled their trips to the island last summer because of the MERS outbreak in Korea.

제주도관광협회에 따르면 지난달 제주도를 방문한 관광객은 153만8천744명으로 지난해 같은 기간 107만1464명 보다 43.6％ 증가했습니다.

지난 7월 한달 기준으로는 역대 최다 기록입니다.

내국인 관광객은 전년 동기대비 15％ 증가한 반면 외국인은 40만4841명이 방문해 메르스 감염 여파로 관광객이 대폭 줄었던 지난해 7월과 비교해 4배 가까이 늘었습니다.
