5 Chinese caught smuggling cigarettes
Police say group brought in 4,500 packs

Five Chinese people have been caught for selling smuggled cigarettes to Chinese residents here.

The group, including a 31-year-old man with the last name “Eom,” is accused of smuggling 4,500 packs of Chinese cigarettes worth 110 million won without an import license. The investigation is ongoing.

So far, police say they have discovered that the smuggling took place with the help of group tour guides in China who gave each tourist in their groups a pack to smuggle into Korea. They then handed them over to the suspects here.

제주도내에 체류하는 중국인들에게 몰래 밀수입한 중국산 담배를 판매해 온 중국인들이 경찰에 적발됐습니다.

제주지방경찰청은 지난 5월부터 최근까지
수입 허가를 받지 않은 1억1천여 만원 상당의 중국 담배 4500보루를 들여와 제주에 거주하는 중국인들에게 판매한 혐의로
중국인 31살 엄 모씨 등 5명을 붙잡아 조사하고 있습니다.

특히 이들은 중국 현지 관광가이드와 짜고 제주에 들어오는 단체 관광객에게 1보루씩 맡기고 나중에 돌려받는 수법으로 담배를 밀수입했던 것으로 경찰조사 결과 드러났습니다.
