Household debt in Jeju rises at fastest pace on record
Up 41% over period of one year

Household debt in Jeju grew at the fastest pace on record in the first half of 2016.

The Jeju branch of the Bank of Korea says that as of the end of June, the total figure for the whole island was 9.6 trillion won. That’s 41 percent higher than a year earlier.

That was the largest growth in the nation, in addition to the greatest on record since figures were first recorded in 2007.

Mortgages in Seogwipo for new apartments spiked the most, at 43 percent.

Non-mortgage related household debt also rose 39 percent compared to the same period a year earlier on the back of increased land sales.

상반기 도내 가계대출 증가율 역대 '최고치'

도내 가계대출 규모가 큰 폭으로 증가했습니다. 한국은행 제주본부에 따르면 지난 6월 말 도내 금융기관 가계대출 잔액은 9조 6천억 원으로 지난해 같은 기간보다 41% 증가했습니다.

이같은 증가율은 전국에서 가장 높은 것으로 2007년 통계작성 이후 역대 최고치입니다.

특히 주택담보대출은 서귀포시를 중심으로 아파트 분양 관련 집단대출이 늘어나며 43% 증가했습니다.

또 토지 거래가 증가하면서 주택을 제외한 부동산을 담보로 하는 기타대출도 지난해 상반기보다 39% 늘었습니다.
