Authorities draw up traffic measures
Traffic congestion charges, parking lot sharing system planned

In an effort to ease the worsening traffic situation here, the provincial government plans to impose congestion charges and implement a parking lot sharing system.

Officials are currently mapping out details on the congestion charge policy, including deciding where and how to impose the charges. The policy is likely to enter into force in the second half of 2017.

The parking lot sharing system would allow outside drivers to use existing parking lots at apartments, schools and companies during designated hours. This would be an alternative to creating more new parking lots. Experts say it will be difficult to keep up with the ever-increasing number of vehicles on the island.

This idea will be tested in areas with the worst parking problems this year. Authorities plan to formally roll it out in phases beginning next year.

교통유발부담금을 부과하는 방안을 추진합니다.

제주특별자치도는 교통유발부담금제를 도입하기로 하고 적용기준과 산정체계, 시행방안 등을 마련한 후 내년 하반기부터 시행하기로 했습니다.

또 차량증가에 비례한 주차장 확충은 현실적으로 어려운 만큼 아파트 등 건축물의 부설주차장과 기업체, 학교와 같은 공공기관 주차장을 일반주민이 일정시간 사용할 수 있도록 하는 공유주차제를 도입하기로 했습니다.

특히 올해중에 주차난이 심각한 상가밀집지역을 대상으로 시범 운영한 후 내년부터 단계적으로 확대한다는 방침입니다.
