Jeju and Hawaii to boost ties
Governors to meet this week

Jeju and the American state of Hawaii have agreed to strengthen their 30-year relationship.

Jeju Governor Won Heeryong and Hawaii Governor David Yutaka Ige will sign a joint statement this Friday to boost exchanges and foster joint development.

According to the statement, Jeju and Hawaii will increase exchanges in the energy and sports sectors and continue to promote their respective islands as natural heritage in order to attract more tourists.

As part of the plans to boost civilian exchanges, Jeju will start a new program that encourages local residents to learn the business know-how and operational systems of their Hawaiian counterparts.

이번 선언문은 청정한 관광지역이라는 공통점을 바탕으로 기존의 세계자연유산과 관광 홍보는 더욱 활성화 시키고, 에너지, 스포츠 교류를 확대하는 방안을 담고 있습니다.

특히 제주도는 민간교류의 범위를 넓혀 도민들이 직접 실질적으로 도움이 되는 노하우와 운영시스템을 배울 수 있도록 할 예정입니다.
