Less low-salinity seawater
‘Recent weather conditions improved ocean conditions’

The Jeju Ocean and Fisheries Research Institute says the low-salinity seawater that had been spreading along Jeju’s coastline is finally starting to dissipate.

Researchers say salinity levels and water temperatures have returned to normal. As of August 29th, the salinity level had surpassed 28 parts per thousand… and the temperature had fallen below 27 degrees Celsius.

The recent showers and strong winds are seen as the likely cause for the rebound to normal, as researchers say those two factors helped mix up coastal waters.

They added they will continue to monitor the seas for a possible recurrence of the phenomena.

2.제주 연안 고수온 저염분 유입 줄어

이달 내내 지속됐던 고수온 저염분수 유입이 줄어든 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주도해양수산연구원이 어제(29일) 한경과 사계 대정 한림 등 서쪽 연안에서 수온과 염분을 측정한 결과 수온은 27도 이하, 염분은 28퍼밀 이상으로 평년 수치를 회복했다고 밝혔습니다.

연구원은 최근 비날씨와 풍랑특보로 인해 바닷물이 섞이면서 고수온 저염분 현상도 완화된 것으로 보인다고 설명했습니다.

연구원은 기상 상황이 나아지면 제주 먼바다에 대한 해상 예찰을 실시해 추가 유입 여부를 확인할 계획입니다.
