Typhoon Malakas approaching
Korea will be affected, but outside main path

Jeju is expected to be right in the path of Typhoon Malakas this weekend, which means heavy rains are in store.

The 16th typhoon of the season developed on Tuesday in the western Pacific and is heading north. Weather experts say the tropical storm will likely pass by Taiwan before heading towards Japan, indirectly affecting the Korean peninsula along the way.

The National Typhoon Center is advising people to continue watching the weather forecast for possible changes in the typhoon’s course.


1.제16호 태풍 말라카스 북상…주말 '간접영향'

제16호 태풍 말라카스가 오늘 새벽 괌 해상에서 발생해
앞으로의 이동경로에 관심이 쏠리고 있습니다.

약한 소형 태풍인 말라카스는
현재 괌 서쪽 710km부근 해상으로 지나
시속 27km의 속도로 서북서진하고 있습니다.

이후 오는 17일에는 대만 북동쪽 해상을 지나
점차 일본 열도쪽으로 방향을 틀 것으로 예상되고 있습니다.

이로 인해 다가오는 주말에는
제주와 남해안에 간접영향으로 인해 많은 비가 내릴 것으로 보입니다.

다만 국가태풍센터는
아직까지 태풍의 강도와 이동경로가 매우 유동적인 만큼
계속 발표되는 기상정보에
관심을 기울여 줄 것을 당부하고 있습니다.
