New provincial art gallery opens September 24
Dedicated to Kim Chang-yeol

A new provincial art gallery dedicated to the renowned artist Kim Chang-yeol, famous for his waterdrop paintings, will open on September 24th.

The provincial government says the single-story facility in the Jeoji Artists’ Village cost 9.2 billion won to build.

Kim stayed on the island during the Korean War. He later donated 220 of his works to the province, and that was what prompted the government to build the gallery.

Its first exhibition will begin on the 25th. It is titled “Traces of Existence” and it will include some of his donated works.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 이번에 문을 여는 김창열미술관은 사업비 92억원을 투입해 저지문화예술인마을에 지상 1층 규모로 지어졌습니다.

김창열미술관은 김창열 작가가 6.25 전쟁 당시 제주에 머물렀던 인연으로
세계적 명성을 얻고 있는 물방울 등 자신의 대표 작품 220점을 제주도에 기증함에 따라 추진된 것입니다.

김창열미술관은 개관전으로 오는 25일부터 '존재의 흔적들'을 주제로 김창열 화백의 기증작품들을 선보이게 됩니다.
