Construction industry still booming
Grows 30% over last year

The construction sector in Jeju shows no signs of slowing down.

The Jeju branch of the Construction Association of Korea counts as members 283 of the 482 construction companies in Jeju. In a recent survey it found its members had worked on a combined 439 construction projects between the start of 2016 and last month. They earned a combined 991.5 billion won.

That’s up an average 30 percent from the same period a year ago. Broken down, business is up 65 percent in the public sector and 17 percent in private-sector construction.

Total contract revenue in 2015 hit an all-time high of 1.1 trillion won. Experts say that record will be broken by the end of this year if the current trend continues.

대한건설협회 제주도회가 도내 종합건설회사 482개사 가운데 회원사인 283개사를 대상으로 공사 수주 현황을 파악한 결과, 올 들어 지난달까지 신규 도급한 공사는
총 439건에 9천 915억여 원으로 집계됐습니다.

지난해 같은 기간보다 30% 늘어난 것으로 공공부문에서 65%, 민간부문이 17% 증가했습니다.

지난해 수주액이 1조 1천 250억 원으로 사상 최고치를 기록했는데 건설협회는 이 같은 추세가 이어질 경우 최고치를 경신할 것으로 내다봤습니다.
