Jeju City, KCTV cover costs for severely disabled in low income bracket

Hundreds of severely disabled people in the low-income bracket are taking advantage of a program that covers the costs of pay TV channels.

Jeju City officials say 502 people have applied for the support since last September, when the program began. Those interested may apply anytime at community service centers.

According to an agreement, the city pays 7,700 won for the 22,000-won pay channels and KCTV picks up the rest of the tab.

저소득 장애인들을 위한 유료방송 이용요금 지원 사업이 호응을 얻고 있습니다.

제주시에 따르면 지난해 9월부터 시행되고 있는 저소득 중중장애인 유료방송이용요금 지원 조례에 따라 지금까지 502명이 혜택을 받고 있습니다.

특히 중증장애인들의 편의를 위해 읍면동 주민센터에서 연중 신청을 받고 있습니다.

제주시는 KCTV제주방송과 협약을 맺고 유료방송 사용료 2만 2천원 가운데
7천 700원을 지원하고 나머지는 KCTV제주방송에서 부담하도록 하고 있습니다.
