Quake-proof features missing in 70% of buildings that need them
14,000 structures don’t meet requirements

Buildings with three or more floors must be designed to withstand earthquakes… but provincial officials say nearly 70 percent of the structures that fit that criteria in Jeju are not.

Officials examined all 21,000 buildings in Jeju with three or more storeys or total floorspace of at least 500 square meters. Sixty-nine percent of them, some 14,000 buildings, had not been designed to withstand earthquakes.

The province says it plans to cut property taxes for five years on buildings that undergo renovations to add the quake-proof features. The floor area ratio and building-to-land ratio requirements for those buildings will also be eased.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport… has announced plans to tighten the requirement to include all two-floor buildings, and therefore expand the number of structures required to be earthquake resistant.

3층 이상 건축물 70% 내진설계 안돼

내진설계를 해야하는 제주도내 3층 이상 건축물의 70%가 이같은 의무를 지키지 않은 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주특별자치도에 따르면 내진 설계가 의무화된 3층이상 또는 연면적 5백제곱미터 이상 건축물 2만 1천여 동 가운데 69%인 1만 4천여 동이 내진 설계를 하지 않은 것으로 나타났습니다.

제주도는 미이행 건축물에 대해 내진설계를 할 경우 재산세를 5년간 경감해 주고 용적률과 건폐율도 완화해 줄 계획입니다.

한편 국토부는 내진설계 확산을 위해 내진설계 의무 대상 건축물을 기존 3층에서 2층 이상으로 강화하는 건축법 개정안을 추진할 예정입니다.
