‘Jeju’s second airport to be built with state funds’
Concerns over privatization quelled

The central government has made clear that Jeju’s second airport will be built with state funds, quelling concerns over privatization after a conglomerate had earlier proposed privatizing the airport.

Representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport made the announcement Tuesday at Incheon Airport during an inspection of the Korea Airports Corporation. They said the national government will operate the island’s second airport and that it will be built with national funding, ruling out any possibilty of it being privatized.

It was brought to light that Hyundai Construction had looked into privatizing the site after lawmakers Jeon Hyeon-hee and Ahn Ho-yeong of the main opposition Minjoo Party disclosed company reports.

제2공항 민자 추진 검토 보고서를 공개하며 대기업의 공항 민영화 가능성을 제기했습니다.
