‘Ecosystem preservation levels’ upgraded
More mid-slope areas now protected

The provincial government has upgraded the preservation levels for some of the island’s mid-slope ecosystems.

A 1.3-kilometer area of gotjawal forests mid-way up Hallasan Mountain has been upgraded to a level 1 ‘ecosystem preservation zone’... and the area of land at level 2... has also been increased by 63.4 square kilometers.

Finally, authorities expanded the groundwater preservation zone by 8.2 square kilometers to total of 35.7.

중산간지역내 생태계, 경관보전지구 등급이 상향 조정됐습니다.

제주도 관리보전지역 재정비안에 따르면
중산간 곶자왈 지역 1.3제곱킬로미터가
생태계보전지구 1등급으로 신규 지정됐고
2등급도 기존보다 63.4제곱킬로미터 증가했습니다.

아울러 지하수 보호 방침에 따라 지하수자원보전지구 1등급 면적도
기존보다 8.2제곱킬로미터 증가한 35.7킬로미터로 조정됐습니다.
