Substandard mandarins being removed from market
Province paying growers \3,000 per 20 kg


Authorities are working to remove substandard mandarin oranges from the market.


Processed mandarins are piling up, and a processing facility recently shut down. In order to prevent substandard fruit from making it to the consumer, the government decided to pay growers to voluntarily get rid of them earlier than it did last year. In 2015, it ran this project in December, but it will start it this year in October and run it through November 25th.

The target is to remove some 29,000 tons. The government is offering 3,000 won per 20-kilogram crate, after inspections by Nonghyup and government officials.

Last year, authorities paid growers for 34,000 tons of fruit that was unsuitable for sale.


비상품 감귤 자가격리…20kg 당 3천원 지원


제주도가 비상품 감귤 자가격리사업을 조기 시행합니다.


제주도는 최근 가공용 감귤 재고가 쌓이고 민간업체 가공 공장도 운영을 중단하면서 비상품 처리 대란이 우려됨에 따라 12월 추진하던 비상품 격리사업을 이달부터 다음달 25일까지 앞당기기로 했습니다.


폐기물량은 2만 9천여 톤으로 농협과 행정시 확인 작업을 거친 뒤 20kg 한 상자 당 3천원이 지원됩니다.


비상품 자가격리 사업은 지난해부터 시행되고 있으며 지난해에도 3만 4천여 톤이 농가에서 폐기됐습니다.
