Autumn colors peak on Hallasan
3 days earlier than usual


Fall foliage on Hallasan has reached its peak.


Leaves on the mountain began turning at higher elevations October 12th. The wave of color has slowly spread down the mountain, and has now peaked around Eorimok and Omokgyo.


Leaves hit their most vibrant four days later than last year, but three days earlier than normal.


Meteorologists say that, despite average temperatures in Jeju being slightly higher than last year, the colors changed earlier because of a recent drop in the mercury up on the mountain.


한라산 단풍 절정…평년보다 3일 빨라


한라산 단풍이 절정을 이루고 있습니다.


제주지방기상청에 따르면 지난 12일부터 시작된 한라산 단풍은 해발 960m의 어리목 광장과 오목교 인근까지 내려오며 최근 절정을 이루고 있습니다.


이같은 단풍 절정은 지난해보다 4일 늦은것이지만 평년과 비교하면 3일가량 빠른 것입니다.


기상청은 이번달 제주도의 평균기온이 지난해에 비해 다소 높긴 하지만 최근 산간지역의 기온이 떨어지면서 단풍이 절정을 이룬 것이라고 설명했습니다.
