Eighth person diagnosed with SFTS
Officials urge everyone to avoid tick bites


An eighth person this year has been diagnosed with severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome, an infectious disease spread by bush tick bites.

According to the provincial government, an 81-year-old from Jeju City came down with a high fever October 23rd. After hospitalization, the man tested positive on the 25th for the SFTS virus.

That was the third confirmed infection in October alone. Health officials are therefore urging everyone to take care to avoid ticks when outdoors this autumn.




8번째 SFTS 환자 발생…80대 남성 감염


올해 8번째 중증열성혈소판감소증후군 SFTS 환자가 발생했습니다.


제주특별자치도에 따르면 제주시에 거주하는 81살 남성이 지난 23일, 고열 증세를 호소했고 25일 종합병원 입원 이후 검사 결과 SFTS 양성판정을 받았습니다.


제주도는 이번 달에만 3명의 SFTS 환자가 발생했다며 가을철 나들이 등 야외활동시 진드기에 물리지 않도록 주의를 당부하고 있습니다.
