Nation’s lowest rate of cremation
Jeju: 64%, Korea: 80%


The rate of cremation in Jeju is the lowest in the nation.

According to data released by the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Family Affairs, nationally, over 80 percent of people were cremated last year. The rate had hit 70 percent in 2011.

Meanwhile, the cremation rate in Jeju stood at roughly 64 percent last year ? 16 percentage points below the national average. Among the 3,300 people who died here on the island, the remains of 2,100 were cremated.

제주의 화장률이 전국에서 가장 낮은 것으로 나타났습니다.
보건복지부가 발표한 화장률 조사에 따르면 지난해 전국 평균 화장률은 80.8%로
2011년 70%를 돌파한 데 이어 4년 만에 80%를 넘어섰습니다.

제주는 지난해 사망자 3천 300여 명 가운데 화장은 2천 100여 명으로
화장률은 64.2%로 집계됐습니다.

제주 화장률은 전국 평균보다 16% 포인트 낮아
전국에서 가장 낮은 화장률을 보이고 있습니다.
