‘Global Education City promises ignored’
Council claims province has failed to look out for local interests


During a recent audit of the provincial autonomous administration department, the provincial council’s government administration committee concluded that the government has failed to live up to the promises it made when seeking permission to push ahead with the Global Education City.


At the time, provincial council members agreed to transfer provincial land for free to the project and allow private land to be sold at a relatively low price. In exchange, the province agreed to ensure area residents and companies had ample chances to be part of the education city. The council committee says it has not done so.


The council now says it will do everything within its power to hold the provincial government accountable should it not live up to its end of the bargain by looking out for the interests of local residents.

영어교육도시 조성 당시 맺은 각종 지역 상생 대책들이 전혀 지켜지지 않다는 지적이 제기됐습니다.


도의원들은 영어교육도시를 조성하면서 도유지를 무상으로 양여하고 사유지 역시
사업자에 헐값에 매각하며 협조했지만 당시 협의한 지역 주민 고용이나 지역업체 참여 실적은 극히 저조하다고 지적했습니다.


제주도가 도민 이익 대변에 적극적으로 나서지 않는다면 도의회는 모든 수단을 동원해서 책임을 묻겠다고 강조했습니다.
