Ban on pork imports to island ‘unconstitutional’
Local citizens file petition to have ban lifted


Some of the people who live near island hog farms have filed a legal petition questioning the constitutionality of the provincial government’s ban on pork imports from other areas of the country.


About 100 people from Goseong-ri and Gwangnyeong-ri in Aewol-eup on Tuesday filed the petition with the Constitutional Court.


They say the regulation banning the import of livestock products is unconstitutional because it violates the right to self-determination, the right to equality, and the right to voluntary purchase decisions.

다른 지역 돼지고기 반입을 금지한 제주도 관련 고시에 대해 양돈농가 지역 주민들이 위헌 여부를 판단해 달라며 헌법소원을 제기했습니다.


애월읍 고성리와 광령리 주민 1백여 명은 어제(1일) 헌법재판소에 제주특별자치도 축산물 관련 고시에 대한 헌법소원을 청구했습니다.


주민들은 다른지방산 돼지고기 반입을 금지한 제주도의 고시규정은 헌법의 자기결정권과 평등권, 자율적인 구매 결정 권리 등을 침해한다고 주장하고 있습니다.
