KCTV funds family reunions for non-Koreans who moved here for marriage. Here’s Minhoe Kim with the story of one of these families.

Mr. Bibish is Dulgujau's father, and lives in Terelj National Park, Mongolia.

His eyesight is poor, and has been for a decade.


Before he loses his sight completely, he wants to look at photos of his daughters, who both immigrated to Jeju, as often as he can.


He tries to imprint their faces onto his heart.

KCTV-JDC fund multicultural family reunions

KCTV and the Jeju Development Corporation selected the family to take part in a family reunion program titled "Love in Jeju."


Now, after a long while, the family is reunited on the island.

I'm completely in heaven. I feel like I'm in a dream.

"너무 좋아서 날아다니는 기분이에요. 너무 떨리고 행복하고 꿈꾸는 것 같아요. "


The daughters have missed their father day and night.

The joy they feel is evident as tears are shed during their reunion.


But time slows for no one, and as the clock ticks, Bibish’s eyes have more and more trouble making out the faces of his daughters Dulgujau and Dajima’s.


The two women feel the harsh pangs of sadness at this realisation.


Their father is slowly going blind. If he returns home without treatment, he may no longer be able to look at the pictures they send him.


But then, the family gets a surprise piece of news.

His left eye will also go blind unless it is treated properly, so we’ll perform surgery on both of them this time.

"지금 조금 보이는 왼쪽 눈도 이대로 가면 안 보이게 되기 때문에
이번에 포기하지 않고 수술을 합니다."


It looked as though the surgery might not happen, but then, with the help of KCTV and a local clinic, Bibish was able to undergo the eye procedure needed to regain his sight.

With his two daughters living their new lives in Jeju, their father can now see them, and the world, clearly once again.
