Jeju City is under fire for planning an extravagant ceremony for a waste reduction campaign.


The city secured the money from its supplementary budget for a large concert to mark the beginning of its new drive to keep the streets clean.


The city set aside 50 million won to clean up the area around the ceremony on the day of the event, but 700 million won for the 20-minute concert slated to precede the actual announcement of the new initiative, prompting critics to blast the local government for its “waste.”


The concert is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. November 11th at the Jeju Sports Complex. Parking lots in the area will be closed temporarily for the day.

제주시가 7억원의 예산을 들여 대규모 음악회를 이용한 쓰레기 줄이기 선포식 행사를 계획해 논란이 커지고 있습니다.


제주시는 이번 추경을 통해 예산 7억원을 확보해 대규모 음악회를 지원합니다.

특히 행사 당일 주변 정리에 5천만원이 투입되는가 하면 쓰레기 줄이기 실천과제 선포식은 음악회가 시작되기 전에 20분 동안만 예정돼 예산 낭비라는 지적입니다.


한편 해당 음악회는 오는 11일 오후 6시 30분부터 제주종합경기장에서 열릴 예정이며 행사 당일 주변 일부 주차장이 폐쇄됩니다.
