Gangwon-do’s yellowtail catch vastly exceeds Jeju’s
Value of mainland fish more than 3X that of local fish in 2015


With an increasing number of yellowtail fish moving north due to global warming, the value of the catch in Gangwon-do Province has skyrocketed to more than three times what the Jeju catch is worth.


Moseulpo Suhyup’s sales records show that in 2012, some 4,100 yellowtail were caught and sold for 1.47 billion won. But in 2015, only 1,300 were caught and sold for a total of 620 million won.


Meanwhile, statistics from Gangwon’s Jukwang Suhyup show that in 2012, yellowtail receipts totaled 940 million won… but last year that sum rose to 2.1 billion won.


In 2015, the ratio of Gangwon-to-Jeju fish at major retailers nationwide was 8-to-2. This year all of the yellowtail is from the mainland province.


강원도 방어 물량 급증…제주 앞질러


지구 온난화로 방어 어장이 북쪽으로 올라가면서 강원도의 방어 물량이 제주를 크게 웃돌고 있습니다.


모슬포수협의 방어 입찰 현황에 따르면, 2012년 14억 7천만 원, 4만 1천여 마리에서 지난해 6억 2천만 원, 1만 3천여 마리로 감소했습니다.


반면 강원도 죽왕수협의 방어 입찰액은 2012년 9억 4천만 원에서 지난해 21억 원으로 두배 넘게 늘었습니다.


이에따라 대형마트의 방어 판매 물량도 지난해 강원도와 제주도 비율이 8대 2에서 올해는 100% 강원도산으로 대체됐습니다.
