‘Ora Tourism Complex will be global destination’
JCC aims to outperform Las Vegas and Dubai


During a Tuesday briefing on plans to build the proposed Ora Tourism Complex, the president of the company financing the project said he aimed to create a destination that surpasses Las Vegas and Dubai.


JCC chief Park Young-jo said he would do everything in his power to push forward with construction despite hurdles, including a delay in licensing for the project and opposition from civic groups.


He added that he was surprised at Governor Won Heeryong’s recent comments that the province could reject the plan if residents opposed it. Park said Jeju should act according to the law and not change its stance because of public opinion.


When asked about the possibility of operating a casino inside the complex, Park said that Korean law made it impossible to profit from casino operations. He maintained that even if JCC were to receive the right to open one, it wouldn’t.

주식회사 JCC가 오라관광단지 사업 설명회를 개최한 가운데 박영조 회장은 오라단지를 라스베가스나 두바이를 뛰어넘는 세계적 휴양단지로 만들겠다는 포부를 밝혔습니다.


박 회장은 사업 인허가 기간도 표류하고 시민단체의 반대여론도 심해지는 등 외국투자기업 사업 여건이 갈수록 나빠지는 상황이지만 자신이 가진 힘과 사회적 영향력을 걸고 제주 미래산업으로서의 관광단지 개발을 추진하겠다고 강조했습니다.


최근 도민들이 반대하면 사업을 불허할 수도 있다고 한 원 지사 발언에 대해서는 사업자로서 당황스러웠다며 제주도는 법적으로 사업을 처리해야지 여론에 따라 입장을 바꿔서는 안된다는 입장을 보였습니다.


관광단지내에 카지노를 운영할 계획을 묻는 질문에 우리나라 카지노 제도로는 수익을 낼 수 없는 구조라 제주도가 카지노 사업권을 주더라도 운영할 의사는 없다고 못박았습니다.
