Jeju lawyers call for immediate resignation of President Park
Jeju Bar Association issues statement Thursday


The Jeju Bar Association has called for President Park Geun-hye to step down amid an influence-peddling scandal involving her confidante Choi Soon-sil.


33 Jeju-based lawyers issued a statement on Thursday saying Park was fundamentally responsible for violating the Constitution and called for her immediate resignation.


Meanwhile, the prosecution has stressed that the only way to establish laws and principles and restore trust was to penalize all those involved in the scandal after a thorough investigation into everyone swept up in it, including the president.


Representatives from the various political parties are also calling for the scandal to be dealt with in line with legal principles.

제주도내 변호사들이 대통령의 퇴진을 요구하는 시국선언에 동참했습니다.


제주지방변호사회 소속 변호사 33명은 오늘 시국선언문을 통해 비선실세들의 국정농단이라는 초유의 헌법유린 사태의 근본적이고 직접적인 책임은 바로 박근혜 대통령에게 있다며 즉각 사임해야 한다고 주장했습니다.


특히 검찰은 대통령을 비롯한 관련자 전원을 철저히 수사하여 처벌을 받게 함으로써 법과 원칙을 세우는 것이 신뢰를 회복할 수 있는 유일한 길이라고 강조했습니다.


이와함께 각 정당은 헌법과 법률에 따라 원칙적인 방법으로 사태를 수습하여야 한다고 덧붙였습니다.
