Sea levels to rise November 15-16
Supermoon phenomenon could cause coastal flooding


Experts predict sea levels across the Korean Peninsula will rise significantly on the 15th and 16th, and they are therefore advising people to prepare for possible flooding.


The Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency says the moon will be extremely close to Earth on November 14th. This supermoon is forecast to raise sea levels.


The agency says they could rise even higher than last month, depending on weather conditions. That’s why everyone along the nation’s coasts are advised to prepare for flooding.


15~16일 해수면 높아져…침수 주의


오는 15일과 16일 제주를 비롯해 전국에서 해수면이 크게 상승할 것으로 전망돼 침수나 범람 피해 없도록 주의가 요구됩니다.


해양수산부 국립해양조사원은 오는 14일 지구와 달이 가장 가까워지는 지점에 근접해 '슈퍼 문'이 뜨고 인력이 커지면서 밀물과 썰물 간 해수면 높이에 큰 차이가 나타날 것으로 전망했습니다.


국립해양조사원은 기상 상황에 따라 지난달 발생한 것보다 더 큰 폭의 높이 차이를 보일 수 있는 만큼 해안가 주변에서 침수나 범람 피해를 입지 않도록 주의해야 한다고 강조했습니다.
