Provincial policy debate on Ora Tourism Complex
Critics collect enough signatures to force debate


Jeju residents have filed a petition to hold the island’s first provincial policy debate on the proposed Ora Tourism Complex.


The Jeju Civil Society Organization Network on Monday submitted a petition with some 2,800 signatures at the provincial office.


The proposed topics to be discussed include what critics describe as a “lack” of dialogue between the local government and its citizens, what would be the “overuse” of Jeju’s groundwater for the tourism complex, and environmental policies.


The province has announced that it will review the matter before holding the debate, which, by law, must be held within a month after it was requested.

제주시민사회단체연대회의는 오늘(21일) 도청 민원실을 방문해 오라관광단지 도정정책토론을 청구하는
도민 2천 8백여 명의 서명부를 제출했습니다.


시민단체는 제주도의 소통 부족과 지하수 과다사용에 대한 우려, 환경총량제 등과의 상충 문제를 확인하기 위해 이번 정책토론회를 제안한다고 밝혔습니다.


도정정책토론은 관련 조례에 따라 도지사가 특별한 사유가 없으면 한 달 이내에 응해야 하는데, 제주도는 우선 적격 신청 여부를 검토할 계획입니다 .
