Change from purchases can be used to charge transportation cards
New service at convenience stores begins next year


Beginning next year, when you buy something at a convenience store, you will have the option of getting your change as usual or having it directly credited to your transportation card.


The Bank of Korea says the move is part of the effort to phase out the use of coins in the country.


Officials hope to expand this program to include the ability to have shoppers choose to have their change sent directly to their credit card companies or bank accounts. They also plan to get more businesses, like large retailers and pharmacies, involved in offering the service.

내년부터 편의점에서 상품을 구입한 후
지불한 현금의 거스름돈을 교통카드에 충전할 수 있게 됩니다.


한국은행은
'동전없는 사회'의 일환으로
내년 상반기부터 편의점에서의 잔돈을
선불식 교통카드에 충전해주는 서비스를 실시한다고 밝혔습니다.


이와 함께 신용카드나
계좌에 송금하는 방안도 추진되며,
업종도 마트나 약국 등으로 확대할 방침입니다
