Ferry company proposes reopening Jeju-Incheon ferry route
Operations halted after Sewol Ferry disaster in April 2014


More than two years after the Jeju-Incheon ferry route closed, one company wants to reopen it.


According to the Incheon Regional Oceans & Fisheries Administration, a Mokpo-based ferry company has applied to begin operations on the route, becoming the first applicant to propose doing so.


A committee will be formed to assess the company and its business plan before making a decision on whether to proceed.


All ferry operations were halted on the Jeju-Incheon route after the Sewol Ferry disaster. Currently only one freighter sails it.

2년 넘게 중단된 제주 인천 뱃길 운항사업자 공모가 마감된 결과 한 개 업체가 응모했습니다.


인천지방해양수산청에 따르면 제주와 인천 내항 해상운송여객사업자 공모에 목포지역 선박관련 업체 한 곳이 단독 신청했습니다.


이에따라 이번 주 안으로 사업자선정평가위원회를 개최해 사업 수행능력과 사업계획 등 타당성을 심사한 뒤 최종 운항 재개 여부를 결정할 계획입니다.


제주 인천 뱃길은 세월호 참사 이후 화물선 한 척을 제외한 카페리 여객선 운항이 중단됐습니다.
