Audit commission to probe spending on ‘extravagant’ concert
Jeju City spent \700m to launch waste reduction campaign


The provincial audit and inspection commission has announced a probe into Jeju City’s spending of 700 million won on a concert that was part of the opening ceremony for a trash reduction campaign.


The commission will look into whether the municipal administration properly funded the event from the budget. Local media reports have suggested that the city overspent.


Committee members will request the municipal department in charge of the concert to submit documents regarding the use of the budget.


An increasing number of people are criticizing the city’s use of so much money for a one-off concert, especially because it was meant to spearhead a campaign about reducing waste.
