‘We refuse to accept state-authored history textbooks’
Critics say books distort April Third Incident


A growing number of people on the island are voicing their opposition to state-authored history textbooks because, they argue, the books downplay the Jeju April Third Incident.


The Jeju branch of the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union issued a statement on November 29th… saying the new version of the textbook is seriously biased in its depiction of modern history. They say it is unacceptable as a textbook.


Similar statements have been issued by the hundred-plus civic groups in Jeju that are participating in the movement calling for President Park Geun-hye’s resignation, as well as the Jeju April 3rd Research Institute and the Jeju Justice Party.


They called for the immediate scrapping of the textbook, saying it shines a positive light on pro-Japanese factions and the Japanese occupation of Korea, while distorting the spirit behind the April 3rd Incident.

각각 보도자료와 성명서를 내고 친일과 독재를 미화하고 제주 4.3항쟁 정신을 왜곡한 국정 역사교과서는 즉각 폐기해야 한다고 요구했습니다.
