Victims’ relatives say textbook must be scrapped

Meanwhile, relatives of April Third Incident victims say the revised state-authored history textbook should be scrapped altogether.


Representatives of a relatives’ association held a press conference on Thursday at the provincial council building and demanded that Seoul discard the revised book for allegedly downplaying the historic tragedy.


The national government conducted an official fact-finding investigation into the incident and established a special law in 2000 that was designed to restore the honor of its victims. The relatives argue that Seoul is now backtracking on its commitments regarding the incident.

제주 4.3유족회가 국정교과서 전면 폐기를 요구하고 나섰습니다.


제주 4.3유족회는 오늘(30일) 오전 제주도의회 도민의방에서 기자회견을 열고 정부는 제주4.3사건에 대해 왜곡 축소 기술한 검토본을 폐기하라고 요구했습니다.


이들은 또 지난 2000년 제주4.3사건 진상규명과 희생자 명예회복에 관한 특별법이 제정되고 공포됐는데도 정부가 국정교과서를 통해 또 다시 생채기를 내려 하고 있다며 즉각 철회를 촉구했습니다.
