Public transportation changes to take effect next August
Intra-city buses to crisscross the island


Official have finalized a plan to revamp public transportation on the island, and the changes are set to go into effect next August.


Intra-city buses will run across the whole province, and riders will get two free transfers.


Ninety-four express buses will be put on the eleven bus routes that connect with Jeju International Airport.


Bus-priority lanes will be designated in several areas, including Joongang-ro between Gwangyang Intersection and Jeju National University, Yeonsam-ro between Shingwang Intersection and Samyang Checkpoint, Gonghang-ro between the airport and (해태동산) Haitae Dongsan, and Dongseogwang-ro between Musucheon Intersection and the Samyang Checkpoint.


Officials will also cut the number of bus routes from the current 644 down to 134, but 24 new transfer stations will be added to the system.


The revision is expected to slash the average transit time from 27 minutes to 17. It is also expected to boost ridership from the current 10 percent of the traveling population to 17 percent by 2021.

제주전역을 시내버스화하고 급행노선을 신설하는 내용의 대중교통 체계개편안이 확정돼 내년 8월부터 시행됩니다.


주요내용을 보면 제주전역을 시내버스화하고 두차례까지 무료환승 서비스를 제공합니다. 또 제주공항을 출발과 도착으로 하는 11개노선에 94대의 급행버스를 신설합니다.


광양사거리에서 제주대학교까지의 중앙로와 신광사거리에서 삼양검문소까지의 연삼로, 공항과 해태동산까지의 공항로, 무수천삼거리에서 삼양검문소까지의 동서광로에 대해 대중교통 우선 차로제를 도입합니다.


노선은 현행 644개에서 134개로 단순화하고 환승시설로 24개소를 설치합니다.


제주도는 대중교통 체계개편으로 평균 통행시간이 27분에서 17분으로 단축되고 현재 10%의 대중교통분담률을 2021년에는 17%까지 올라갈 것으로 기대하고 있습니다.
