Bird flu prevention kicks into high gear
Fumigation, testing for the virus, monitoring, etc.


Local authorities are beefing up prevention efforts around migratory bird habitats on the island as a highly pathogenic strain of bird flu continues to spread across the country.


The areas around Jeju’s 25 habitats for migratory birds have been designated avian influenza management zones, and the poultry farms in these areas were tested for the virus.


Researchers say migratory birds caused the outbreak, so authorities will fumigate the habitats on a daily basis as well as keep a close eye on vehicles transporting poultry around them.


Poultry farmers are being advised to keep their farms closed at all times, disinfect the inside and outside of their facilities, and install nets to prevent contact with birds that might be virus carriers.


철새도래지 중심 고병원성 AI 차단 방역 강화


고병원성 조류인플루엔자가 전국적으로 확산됨에 따라 철새도래지 등을 중심으로 한 차단 방역이 강화되고 있습니다.


제주특별자치도는 철새도래지 25개소에 지정된 긴급 AI 중점방역관리지구 주변에 있는 오리 농가를 대상으로 시료를 채취해 내일(1일)까지 AI 바이러스 검사를 마무리할 계획입니다.


또 철새가 AI 주요 전파요인으로 추정되면서 도래지 주변에 대해 매일 소독을 실시하고 이 일대 가축운송차량도 특별 관리하고 있습니다.


제주도는 가금류 사육농가에 농장 출입구 상시 차단과 축사 내외부 소독, 그물망 설치 등의 방역 수칙을 지켜달라고 당부했습니다.
