Seoul to agrees to partially fund Nuri Childcare Program
Program provides free daycare for children between the ages of 3 and 5


The national government is expected to shoulder part of the financial burden for the (누리) Nuri Childcare Program next year.


All three of the country’s main political parties and the central government on Friday reached an agreement on next year’s budget. The proposal includes Seoul’s partial funding of the daycare program for 3- to 5-year-olds, in exchange for boosting taxes on the country’s highest earners.


The central government agreed to support the program over the next three years to the tune of 860 billion won annually.


The rival political parties reached a compromise on the budget after opposition parties agreed to stop pushing for a hike to the corporate tax rate in exchange for the creation of a new tax bracket for the nation’s highest earners. The extra proceeds collected will be used to fund the Nuri program.

내년 누리과정 예산을 정부에서 일부 부담하게 될 전망입니다.


여야 3당과 정부는 오늘(2일) 누리과정 예산을 중앙정부에서 일부 부담하고 소득세 최고구간을 신설하는 방향으로 내년도 예산안 협상을 타결지었습니다.


누리과정 예산의 경우 3년 한시의 특별회계를 신설하고, 정부가 8천6백억원 가량을 부담하는 것으로 합의했습니다.


예산부수법안은 야당이 인상을 주장해온 법인세의 경우 그대로 두는 대신, 소득세의 최고 세율 구간을 신설해 누리과정 예산에 충당하는 것으로 합의가 이뤄졌습니다.
